A car has ploughed into a house in Grimsby.

Humberside Police said officers responded to reports of a crash on Winchester Avenue, shortly after 13:00 BST on Wednesday.

A silver Mercedes hit the wall of a property, causing damage, but no one was injured, a spokesperson said.

Hilary and John Treadgold, who live nearby, said it sounded like a big explosion.

Hilary and John Treadgold described hearing what sounded like a big explosion

"We were just finishing our lunch and thought it was perhaps a gas explosion, or a car hitting a lamppost," Mrs Treadgold said.

"We didn't realise the car had gone in until we went outside," her husband added.

Two witnesses told the BBC they had seen several people running away from the scene at the time.

The force has appealed for CCTV and dashcam footage.
