Police are investigating after a video emerged of a mob attacking people in a car.

The video, which was posted on social media during Saturday's violence in Hull, showed a crowd charging towards a silver BMW, banging on the vehicle and opening the car doors.

People can be heard on the video making racial slurs and saying the word "kill".

Humberside Police said neither the driver nor the passengers had been injured and speculation about a stabbing was untrue.

A number of videos were posted of the incident, including some showing plumes of black smoke billowing in the background and a shopping trolley being thrown onto the car's windscreen.

'Left shaken'

In a statement, the force said: "We are aware of a video circulating online which shows groups targeting a man in a silver BMW during the disorder in Hull yesterday, Saturday 3 August.

"Specialist officers are in contact with the driver and passengers of the vehicle, who were left shaken but thankfully uninjured in the attack.

"Investigations are under way to establish those involved in that particular incident and ensure that they are brought to justice.

"We want to confirm that nobody was stabbed in this incident, contrary to reports circulating on social media."

Police made a number of arrests following disorder in the city centre on Saturday

The unrest followed demonstrations on Saturday involving anti-immigration protesters and anti-racism campaigners in Hull city centre.

Twenty-five people have so far been arrested after several shops were broken into and looted, with one set on fire, while police were attacked with bricks and fireworks.

Unrest broke out in towns and cities across England following the killing of three young girls in Southport on Monday.

Over the weekend trouble also flared in other towns and cities, including Liverpool, Bristol, Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Blackpool, Belfast and Rotherham.
