Men jailed for robbing disabled man in his home

Three men who stole thousands of pounds in cash during a robbery at the home of a disabled man have been jailed.

Aston Wiltshire, 27, Steven Murphy, 38, and Lyndon Pagden, 20, were all caught on CCTV as they entered the bungalow in Carlton Road, Boston, during the early hours of 27 April.

All three were sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court earlier after admitting a charge of robbery.

Wiltshire, of Blenheim Willows Lane, Sibsey, was jailed for seven years and seven months; Murphy, of Broadfield Lane, Boston, for five years and nine months and Pagden, of Cotton Road, Boston, for four years and eight months.

The court heard the victim, who used a wheelchair to get around his home, was awoken by knocking at his front door.

He recognised Wiltshire when the three men forced entry, the court was told.

The trio took £6,500, which had been stored in the victim's clothing, and tried to open a safe, which was empty.

During the robbery, the victim was also sprayed with some form of liquid, the court was told.

Murphy was located near the scene and found to be in possession of two envelopes, which each contained £500 in cash.

Pagden was arrested a short time later and Wiltshire was detained as he was about to catch a holiday flight from Stansted Airport on 9 May.

Passing sentence, Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight said: "This was clearly a planned robbery of a disabled man in his own home."

The judge said the spraying of the liquid, probably disinfectant, was a significant factor in the robbery.

The three men were also handed a restraining order preventing them from having any contact with the victim.
