A man suffered burns following reports of an explosion at a house in Derbyshire, firefighters have said.

Crews from Ilkeston, Alfreton, and Eastwood in Nottinghamshire attended a property in Park Street, Heanor, after 15:46 GMT on Thursday.

Firefighters said the incident came through as an explosion and found the house to be "well alight" - which prompted a request for additional support from Ripley station.

They said the occupier of the home suffered some burns during the fire and Derbyshire Police was now investigating.

Crews said parked cars made the approach "tricky", but firefighters wearing breathing apparatus made their way through and searched the property to extinguish the fire.

A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "One male casualty was out of the property upon arrival of fire crews.

"Final fire crews left the scene at 20:30 once all hotspots had been extinguished and left the incident in the care of Derbyshire Police to maintain a cordon overnight."
