Police have urged people to call 101, or 999 in an emergency, if they suspect someone of drink or drug driving

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after being stopped by police.

A roads policing officer stopped a Vauxhall Astra in Wroughton, near Swindon, shortly after 22:00 BST on Tuesday following concerns the driver may have been under the influence of drugs.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, failed a roadside drugs test and was arrested. Suspected class B drugs were found in the car, Wiltshire Police said.

The man has since been released while further tests and enquiries are carried out.

Following the arrest police have urged people to call 101, or 999 in an emergency, if they suspect someone of drink or drug driving.

PC Luke Hobbs, of the force's roads policing unit, said: “Day in, day out, we continue to stress the dangers of committing any of the fatal five offences – this includes driving under the influence of drugs.

"This can seriously impact your ability to drive and increases the risk of you causing a serious or fatal collision."

Last week Wiltshire Police launched a summer road safety campaign with the message that there is "no excuse" for committing the "fatal five" offences. These are:

  • Careless driving

  • Drink/drug driving

  • Not wearing a seatbelt

  • Excessive speed

  • Distracted driving (including mobile phones)
