The reopening of a Nottinghamshire road which was closed due to a collapsed wall has been delayed again.

Town Street in Bramcote, known locally as the Devil's Bend, was shut for gas work in April but an initial two week schedule was pushed back into the summer after the collapse.

The road was expected to open again on 18 June, but National Grid has said it will use the closure to bring forward its own work on power cables.

That means the road is now not scheduled to open until 24 June, but it will avoid a separate closure in the coming weeks.

Repairs to the old wall have proved more complex than originally thought

A highways manager from Nottinghamshire County Council said they were confident their own repairs would be completed by the earlier date.

"National Grid was able to complete most of the works during the road closure on Chilwell Lane at the south of the closure, and this is the final stage of the repair," they said.

"They cannot work while we are there.

"We understand this is inconvenient to road users, but we have a duty to allow these pre-planned works to continue.

"It makes sense to extend the current closure rather than opening the road and then closing the road again a short time later."

A National Grid spokesperson added: "We are planning to carry out essential work to repair a cable fault in Town Street, Bramcote, between 18 and 21 June, so that we can continue providing a safe and reliable electricity supply.

"We are sorry for any disruption."
