About 30 properties in a village have suffered daily power cuts for a week.

People living in Briston, Norfolk, have complained that the intermittent outages have taken place since 3 October.

Resident Terry Blogg, 68, said sometimes the power had gone off four or five times in a day.

UK Power Networks, which owns and maintains the electricity cables, apologised to villagers and said it was working to repair the fault.

It added that Storm Amy had caused part of the issue, as had trees coming into contact with the cables.

Its statement explained: "An intermittent high voltage fault or tree contact is causing power cuts for about 30 properties in Briston.

"We have completed a line patrol, and tree cutting and are installing monitoring equipment to pinpoint and repair the fault."

Mr Blogg, a wheelchair user, carries a wind-up torch with him in case his power is interrupted and leaves him the dark.

He said: "I've lost count actually the number of times that I've reset the clock on my microwave.

"[If this continues long term] I couldn't manage, basically. I'd have to get some help from somewhere because I need it for heating. I need it for washing and everything else. So, yeah, that would be a big problem."
