Murder suspect in court over stabbing death

A man has been charged with murdering a 27-year-old who was fatally stabbed.

Macaulay Branighan died in hospital on Wednesday morning three days after the attack in Westerton Green, Stockton, on Sunday.

Stephen Ward, 25, was arrested on Wednesday and has been charged with murder, Cleveland Police confirmed.

He appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court earlier and was remanded in custody. His case will be heard at Teesside Crown Court on 14 November.

Three men, aged 21, 22 and 24, have been released on conditional bail.
