Attempted murder charge over device found in street

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a suspicious device was found on a residential street.

Controlled explosions took place in Cowley Hill in Borehamwood after Hertfordshire Police was called at about 12:15 BST on Saturday.

Homes were evacuated and several roads closed while the object was dealt with by the explosive ordnance disposal unit.

Detectives said Robert Kovacs, 38, of Tenby Road in Edgware, had also been charged with making an explosive substance with intent to endanger life, and was due to appear at St Albans Magistrates' Court on Monday.

A woman from Borehamwood, 38, who was also arrested in connection with the incident, has been released on bail.
