A man has been seriously hurt in a stabbing near a public space in Birmingham.

Paramedics and police officers were called to Yardley Wood Road, near Billesley Common, after the victim was stabbed just after 14:30 BST on Thursday.

He was taken to hospital where he was in a serious but stable condition, West Midlands Police said.

A force spokesperson said their investigation was in its early stages and officers were patrolling the area to try to reassure the community.
