Communities along the Humber Estuary are to benefit from the government cash

Coastal communities along the Humber Estuary are to benefit from £85,000 of government funding.

The money is to fund schemes that support careers, education, training and skills to encourage more people into the maritime sector, the Department for Transport said.

The region is among nine others across the UK that is receiving a share of the government's £1m pot, which is dedicated to "growth and innovation" within the industry.

Maritime Minister Mike Kane said he hoped the cash would "deliver jobs, skills and training for local communities and turbocharge growth by delivering investment into the sector".
