A volunteer who set up a sports club with his own money has won BBC Yorkshire's Unsung Hero award.

Keith Grainge, from Copmanthorpe near York, was nominated by one of the 300 people who were introduced to pickleball by him as part of the Sports Personality of the Year awards.

During 2023, the 83-year-old widower started offering pickleball sessions in York and now runs clubs at six different venues in the city.

Pickleball player Tony McGale said: "I had to nominate Keith because pickleball is amazing and it's changed so many people's lives, including mine."

Mr Grainge will now attend the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony next week and has been shortlisted for the national Unsung Hero award.

Pickleball is a version of tennis played on a small court with plastic bats and balls.
