Police are investigating an alleged assault by an ice hockey player on a member of an opposing team.

Blackburn Hawks claim their player Devids Jurineoks was assaulted by a member of the Deeside Dragons.

The incident allegedly occurred in the tunnel at the Deeside ice rink, Flintshire, during a break in play in the Dragons' 6-3 win over the Hawks on Sunday.

North Wales Police confirmed it has received a report and is investigating the matter.

The Hawks said that the incident took place on the way to the dressing rooms at the end of the second segment of the game, and the player received first aid attention from the team's physio.

They added that the player alleged to have carried out the assault will not be allowed entry to ice hockey events at the Blackburn arena.

Deeside Dragons said they aim to "fully understand the event" and that they "awaits assistance" from England Ice Hockey.
