A Grade II-listed cemetery lodge has been put up for sale as a fixer-upper that could potentially be turned into a family home.
Scartho Cemetery Lodge, off Scartho Road in Grimsby, is on the market for £275,000 after owners North East Lincolnshire Council decided it was "surplus" to the authority's requirements.
The property, which was built in 1888, has been empty for 12 years and the sale is being handled by PHH Commercial.
The listing, external said four rooms on the top floor could be turned into three bedrooms and a family bathroom. Rooms on the ground floor were also suitable for a kitchen and WC, it added.
PHH Commercial described the property as a "rare opportunity" to own a listed building and an "opportunity to enhance the value of the dwelling by way of further refurbishment".
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the property was recently taken off Historic England's at-risk register after repairs were carried out.
The listing said the works had "preserved the original features of the building in line with the [heritage] Listing".
Failed yoga retreat plan
In 2004, plans to convert the lodge into a yoga and meditation centre were approved, but works were never completed.
The council’s cabinet agreed in April 2021 to allocate £467,000 from heritage funding to restore and reinstate the property.
A spokesperson for the local authority said it was "now surplus to the council’s operational requirements".
According to Historic England, external, the lodge was built by EW Farebrother of Grimsby for the Grimsby Corporation Cemetery Committee.
