A 200-home housing estate could be built on a country lane in Leicestershire after plans were put forward.

Developers have lodged a planning application for the scheme on farming land off Beeby Road, near Scraptoft, about four miles (6km) from Leicester city centre.

The project, which would include 80 affordable homes, has been submitted to Harborough District Council by Bloor Homes.

If proposals were approved, the developer said work on the 10.5-hectare (26-acre) site could start between 2026 and 2027.

A spokesperson said it started consulting with residents in the area from 2024.

A separate planning application, to build 1,200 homes, shops, a primary school and other structures on the site, was previously submitted in October 2019.

Council planning documents said the development was "on hold and has been for some time".

Another scheme for 100 houses on the nearby former Stoneygate Rugby Football Club site, in Scraptoft, was also revealed in November 2023 but it remains undetermined, due to an objection from Sport England.
