Man appears in court over series of house fires

A man has appeared in court charged with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life after a series of house fires in the same town in Leicestershire.

Karl Poxon, 50, was arrested after detectives linked three fires, which started in Ashby-de-la-Zouch shortly after 07:00 GMT on Friday.

On Monday, Leicester Magistrates' Court heard that emergency crews were initially called to Holywell Avenue at 07:05, before responding to further fires in Prestop Drive at 07:08 and Clifton Drive at 07:19.

Mr Poxon, of Holywell Avenue, who has also been charged with dangerous driving, was remanded in custody and will appear at Leicester Crown Court on 12 January 2026.
