Border Force officials contacted Nottinghamshire Police after intercepting a parcel at Heathrow Airport

  • Published

A man has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs into the UK after a package containing cannabis was intercepted at Heathrow Airport.

Nottinghamshire Police said the parcel "was declared as containing rain cover bags" and was being mailed from Thailand to an address in Nottingham when it was found on 5 December.

Border Force officials found it contained 660g of the Class B drug, and a second suspicious package containing 543g of cannabis was found on 18 December.

A 23-year-old was arrested after being found on Russell Street, in the Arboretum area of the city, on Saturday.

In a statement the force said the suspect had been questioned on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to supply Class B drugs, and since bailed pending further investigation.

PC Ashley Smith said: "Hopefully this arrest will serve as a warning to others that we will not hesitate to take action whenever drugs are imported into Nottinghamshire."
