A proposed £10 million culture hub in a Lancashire town centre has been given the go ahead from councillors.

The project, which still needs to attract funding, would see a two-storey extension built on the side of Blackpool's Grundy Art Gallery.

It would also provide a new link to the adjoining Grade II listed Central Library.

A feasibility study for the investment has been carried out using money from the council's £5.9 million grant from the Shared Prosperity Fund.

The chair of Blackpool Council's planning committee, councillor Dave Flanagan said he believed the decision was "a step in the right direction to preserving Blackpool's rich heritage".
