Wind farms and immigration raised at French summit

Leaders from Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney and Sark met with the Regional Council of Brittany and Departmental Council of Ille-et-Vilaine

Political leaders of the Channel Islands and parts of France have met at an annual summit focusing on cooperation.

Deputy Steve Falla, policy and resources committee lead for external relations for the States of Guernsey, said opportunities for collaboration were discussed at the event in Brittany.

Jersey Minister for Sustainable Economic Development Kirsten Morel said the summit was an "invaluable opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation in recent years".

Officials said wind farms, marine spatial plans, economic development issues, immigration and maritime links were among the topics discussed.

Both Guernsey and Jersey signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with the region of Brittany in 2023.

Jean-Luc Chenut, president of the Departmental Council of Ille et Vilaine, one of the co-organisers, said: "The geographical proximity of our territories fosters concrete cooperation on shared issues, at the heart of our common cultures."
