A fire which broke out outside Plymouth Argyle's Home Park stadium was started deliberately, the fire service believes.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the blaze at 21:10 GMT on Monday following a blaze which was confined to two portable toilets in the car park.

The fire service said the toilets were "completely destroyed" in the flames, and added "the fire is believed to have been started deliberately".

In a post on Facebook, Plymouth Argyle Football Club said there was "no damage to the interior" of the building and thanked the public for alerting emergency services.

An Argyle spokesperson said the response from the community had been "incredible", and added "one of our contractors has offered to clean up the affected area today which will see the area returned to normal as quickly as possible".

The club said the fire broke out "next to the portaloo outside the Babcock Devonport End".

"We are now treating the incident as arson with CCTV provided to the police," a spokesperson said.

"We would like to thank the fire brigade for their incredible response, reaching the site of the incident within three minutes of it starting and limiting the damage caused.

"The matter is now with the police, and we will be making no further comment."
