Two students have become the first to complete a veterinary nurse training course in Guernsey.

The College of Animal Welfare (CAW) said students Lianne Abel, 35, and Sammie Roberts, 24, have qualified as registered veterinary nurses through its satellite training centre based at GSPCA.

It said the milestone "highlights the opportunities now available locally for those in Guernsey aspiring to become veterinary nurses".

Alison Simpson, head of veterinary nursing satellite centres at CAW, said: "Sammie and Lianne's achievement underscores the value of having a dedicated training centre on the island."

Ms Abel said she was offered "plenty of support"

CAW said the pair were able to complete their studies from their homes in Guernsey, cutting down on emissions from transport.

"The course itself was so brilliantly delivered with comprehensive resources and plenty of support when you needed it", Ms Abel said.

Ms Roberts added : "It has been such a great opportunity to be a part of the new satellite centre in Guernsey and be the first students to complete the course on the island, along with Lianne."

Ms Simpson said: "We look forward to continuing to expand our training provision across the UK to help more students achieve their goals."
