A man who admitted stealing underwear and socks worth just over £750 was told to complete unpaid work and pay compensation.

Christopher Burke, 38, of Mill Lane, Newbury, admitted four counts of theft from a shop following incidents at the town's Camp Hopson department store in July.

He admitted stealing £168 worth of underwear on 14 July and 25 July, underwear worth £249 on 21 July and socks worth £168 on 31 July - a total of £753.

Burke was told to complete 50 hours of unpaid work over the next year and pay £100 compensation at Reading Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
