Traffic control bus gates due to come into force

The re-modelling outside Stoke Station is part of a £29m improvement plan

Drivers are being warned they could face being fined if they enter new "bus gates" in Stoke-on-Trent that are to become operational.

The council said the gates on College Road and Station Road would come into force from Monday, with penalties for those drivers who flout the rules.

Bus gates are short lengths road, intended for use solely by buses.

The new restrictions have been clearly signposted, Stoke-on-Trent City Council said, and make up part of the transformation work outside the railway station that began in May 2024.

As well as the bus gates, the work includes re-modelling of Winton Square as well as introducing new high-capacity bus stops and shelters.

A statue of Josiah Wedgwood statue has also been relocated outside the station's main entrance.

The council said the works were part of a multi-million pound masterplan to transform the city's gateway to make it more appealing to businesses, residents and visitors and to encourage further investment in the area.

They added it would encourage active travel by providing a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists.
