A volunteer has been seriously injured while working at a rail museum.

Thames Valley Police said emergency services were called to a "work-related incident" at Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire shortly after 12:00 GMT on Wednesday.

The injured man was taken to hospital by air ambulance where he remains in a serious but stable condition. An investigation is ongoing.

The railway museum and preservation engineering site extends over 21 acres and houses a collection of Great Western Railway steam locomotives.

South Oxfordshire District Council said it was in discussions with the Health and Safety Executive about which organisation would lead the investigation.

"As it will be subject to an active investigation, we would not say any more at this stage.

"Our thoughts go out to the person who has been injured and we wish him a speedy recovery," it added.
