A man in his 20s is critically ill after he was knocked down by box van.

Lancashire Police said the man suffered head injuries when he was hit by a Mercedes box van at about 08:23 GMT on Port Way, Preston.

Det Sgt Joe Ghigi, from Lancashire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "As a result of this collision a man has been left with a very serious injury, and my thoughts are with him and his loved ones at this time.

"We are now investigating the exact circumstances which led to the collision and I would ask any witnesses or anyone with footage which could assist our enquiries to make contact with my team as soon as possible."
