Intact Insurance's Sunderland office at Doxford International Business Park will close at the end of the year

More than 100 workers at an insurance company are set to lose their jobs by the end of the year, bosses have announced.

Intact Insurance, which has rebranded from RSA Insurance, said 112 people employed at its Doxford International Business Park site in Sunderland would "leave the business, mainly at the end of the year".

The London-based firm said it was "discussing alternative arrangements" for the remaining 57 employees on Wearside.

"This follows our decision to exit the personal insurance market first announced in December 2023 and reflects the wind down in business activity associated with this," a spokesperson said.

The business currently employs 169 people in Sunderland.

It said a "full package of support" was being provided to those affected including the hosting of recruitment fairs.

A spokesperson added it had been consulting with Unite the union for some time over the announcement.

RSA Insurance announced in July that the office would close at the end of the year.
