Police have arrested a man who was reported to be threatening people with an axe in a Wetherspoon pub.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers went to the White Hart Hotel on Fore Street, Okehampton, at about 18:00 BST on Sunday following reports that a man had entered with a weapon and had threatened people.

Police said the man left the pub before they arrived and a police helicopter was used to search the area for him.

A man in his 50s was arrested at about 20:50 BST on suspicion of making threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon, a spokesperson said.

"He remains in police custody at this time and enquiries remain ongoing," the spokesperson added.

Police confirmed that no-one was injured in the incident.
