Temporary road closures as A370 resurfacing begins
- Published
A key commuter route will be closed for a week while resurfacing works are carried out to prevent deterioration and potholes.
Work to improve the road surface on the A370 in Weston-super-Mare will begin on Monday 8 July.
The work, which will be carried out between 09:30 and 15:30 BST, will be completed in phases and involve a road closure on the outbound northerly side of the road.
A signed diversion route will be in place and drivers are asked to allow extra time for journeys as there will be disruption.
According to North Somerset Council, there is a "small window of opportunity" to treat the road, as it only takes a few years for water to penetrate the surface and make it crack and degrade.
The work will be completed over the following dates:
On Monday, surface dressing will take place on Somerset Avenue, from the Airport roundabout on Locking Moor Road to the traffic lights on J21 of the M5.
It will then be sealed on Wednesday.
Surface dressing on Hildesheim Bridge, Winterstoke Road and Flowerdown Bridge, will start on Tuesday, and be sealed on Thursday.
All lineage works will take place from 11 to 14 July through staggered night time road closures between 20:00 and 06:00 BST.
Once the roads are reopened, a lane closure will remain in place for safety reasons until new road markings are installed.
