Man who strangled and assaulted ex-partner jailed

A man who strangled his ex-partner until she almost passed out and threatened to set fire to her home has been jailed.
Terry Allcorn, 35, argued with the woman at a hotel in Peterborough last year before assaulting her. On another occasion, he dragged her through the city centre by her hair.
Allcorn was arrested and charged and later admitted intentional strangulation, coercive and controlling behaviour and assault.
He was jailed for three years and one month at Peterborough Crown Court.
Cambridgeshire Police said Allcorn, of Allexton Gardens in Peterborough, punched and slapped his ex-partner while arguing with her at a hotel in April 2022.
He later boasted to his friends that he could "feel her body going limp" when he tried to strangle her, the force said.
On another occasion, it said he grabbed her hair and dragged her through Peterborough city centre to her car.
After they got into the vehicle, he then told her to hand over the keys and £20.
She initially refused but, two hours later, felt she had no choice but to comply.
Allcorn strangled her again at her home when she said she did not want to have sex with him.
Police added that when they stopped living together he would watch her house during the night and regularly confront her about her relationships.
In April, she woke up at 04:00 BST to find him staring at her bedroom window.
He continued to contact her and, if she was not at home, he would accuse her of having a relationship with someone else.
On one occasion, police said he threatened to set fire to her home.
At the end of that month, Allcorn persuaded his ex-partner to pick him up in her car.
They argued and he grabbed a long pole, hit her on the leg with it and threw it at her.
Det Con Lauren Clark, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "Allcorn's behaviour towards the victim in this case was despicable.
"I hope the conclusion of the court proceedings will act as some comfort to the victim as she looks to rebuild her life.
"I'd encourage anyone in an abusive relationship to seek help."
