City centre car turning bans yet to be determined

More consultation is needed before plans are agreed to ban drivers turning into a city centre road, officials have said.
New rules could forbid motorists accessing Hills Road from Lensfield Road in Cambridge.
The busy junction, by the Catholic Church of Our Lady of the English Martyrs, sees the roads also meet Regent Street and Gonville Place.
The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) is not ready to agree plans to impose any turning restrictions, its executive board says.
They are being considered as part of a wider scheme to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety in Hills Road, the Local Democracy Reporting Service writes.
Right turns for vehicles into Hills Road and left turns out of Hills Road and Regent Street at the crossroads will be banned if the rules go ahead.
Labour Cambridge City Council leader Mike Davey says he does not think the existing junction works well, but he wants to see more evidence showing that.
The GCP is looking at giving formal approval to a finalised scheme in late 2025 or early 2026.
The proposal was discussed by the GCP executive board on Thursday, external.
