Murder investigation after Cork remains identified

Gardaí (Irish police) have begun a murder inquiry after human remains discovered in Rostellan, County Cork were identified as those of Kieran Quilligan.
The 47-year-old had been missing since 1 September 2023.
Gardaí said that he was last seen in Cork city centre.
His remains were found just after midday on Monday near the village of Whitegate by a garda search team with a dog.
A post-mortem examination was carried out and the remains were later identified as Mr Quilligan.
A murder inquiry began on Thursday, led by a senior investigation officer from Bridewell Garda station in Cork.
Gardaí have asked for anyone with information to contact them.
