A man has been charged over an attack on a taxi driver in Coventry.

Police said the driver was left with arm and chest injuries after being struck by a passenger on 29 April.

Artur Nowostawski, 40, from Coventry, is accused of wounding, attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was arrested on Monday and is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

West Midlands Police said the driver had been assaulted after picking up a passenger from Coventry railway station at about 21:30 BST, who then demanded money.

The driver escaped, but was injured.
