Business improvement district votes to continue

The Brackmills industrial estate contains several warehouses and businesses

A business improvement district (BID) at an industrial estate with 11,000 employees will continue for a further five years.

More than 180 businesses on Brackmills in Northampton voted in favour of retaining the BID status.

It means there will be a further £2m of funding over the five years through the BID levy.

Sara Homer, chief executive of Brackmills BID, said it was "exciting news for everyone" on the industrial estate.

About 87% of votes cast in the 2024 ballot voted in favour of continuing the BID.

Brackmills has had BID status for 15 years, an initiative that has seen businesses pool an annual levy and use these funds exclusively for the benefit of the estate.

The levy for the next five years will be 1% of businesses' rateable value.

Ms Homer said the funding would "ensure our estate continues to thrive".

She added the BID would focus on infrastructure, crime prevention, safety, environment and sustainability.

Businesses on the estate include DHL, sports retailer Decathlon, John Lewis and Travis Perkins.
