Manx Telecom prices to rise 5.5% from April
- Published
A telecommunications provider on the Isle of Man has announced its prices will go up by 5.5% from 1 April.
Manx Telecom blamed inflationary pressures including "annually increasing electricity, global supply chain and overhead costs" for the rise.
Manx Telecom CEO Gary Lamb said the rises had "unfortunately become necessary".
Tariffs set to rise include fixed-line and mobile phone rentals and charges, and copper broadband and paper billing charges.
Mr Lamb said the he understood the inconvenience" the changes would cause, but the firm remained "committed to providing high quality telecommunications services on the Isle of Man".
Tariffs
Under the changes, fixed call charge rates to all destinations are set to go up by 1p or 5.5%, whichever is greater.
Call, data and text charges outside of mobile bundles will also rise, and paper billing charges are set to increase by 50p to £3.50.
Legacy fibre broadband prices will increase but broadband tariffs launched after June 2022 will not be affected.
The company's Low User Choice social inclusion tariff and operator services such at the speaking clock will also not increase in price.
A Manx Telecom spokesman said giving "lengthy notice" of the increases was a requirement of the Telecommunications License, which would give customers time to terminate their contract and change providers if they wiched to.
In 2022, the Communication and Utilities Regulatory Authority (CURA) found the firm had not done enough to inform consumers of a 10% broadband rise and ordered it to re-publicise the change and refund those who may want to cancel their contracts.
