National Highways has cancelled its proposed closure of the A30 ahead of the Royal Cornwall Show.

There were worries the closure of the main road for roadworks beginning on Friday night could cause problems for people attending the show.

Highway bosses said they had reviewed the weekend closure and made changes to take account of the volume of traffic going to and from the show.

National Highways said: "Therefore, the A30 will remain open throughout the Royal Cornwall Show weekend."

The show will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The A30 was due to close beginning at 21:00 BST on Friday and stay shut until Monday.

Cancellation welcomed

Chris Riddle, the show secretary, said the closure was a "big worry" for many people and he was glad it had been cancelled.

"It caused a lot of confusion and delay," he said.

"There are also a lot of horses, cattle and sheep moving, particularly on the last day when stock is returning home.

"It would have made life that much more difficult, and I think it is going to ease things considerably."

Devon and Cornwall Police said a temporary speed limit of 30mph along the A39 at Hals Grave would be in place as heavy traffic was expected across the three days of the show.
