A woman in her 90s has died in a house fire, emergency services said.

Fire crews received a report of smoke coming from a house in Westdale View, Tow Law, at 14:20 GMT on Monday.

On arrival, they were met with a "fully developed fire" and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, they said.

A joint investigation between Durham Constabulary and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service has started to determine the cause of the blaze.
