Icy, wintry conditions have continued to grip parts of Staffordshire as temperatures barely rose above freezing levels.

A snow and ice warning for northern England, issued by the Met Office until 12:00 GMT on Wednesday, included areas of the county such as the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Photographs taken by BBC Weather Watchers showed wintry conditions around Leek especially.

Drivers were warned to take care on the roads by Staffordshire County Council.

The UK Health Security Agency issued an amber cold weather alert for England this week, meaning the NHS is expected to come under extra pressure and elderly people may be more at risk.

The UK is braced for sub-zero temperatures until the weekend.
