Homeowners have been urged to apply for government grants to help make their homes more environmentally friendly, while also bringing their bills down.

The grants are available for people living in Ashford, Kent, and are from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, through Ashford Borough Council.

The money can be used to install items such as solar panels, insulation and low carbon heating systems.

The scheme is open until 30 September to households on a combined annual income of less than £36,000.

The properties must also not be heated by mains gas and should be classed as hard-to-heat homes.

The scheme is part of the government's drive towards achieving net zero.

Steve Campkin, portfolio holder for climate, environment and sustainability, said: “There are many eligible homeowners in the borough who could miss out on these free energy-saving upgrades.

"These measures will help heat homes while cutting their carbon footprint, and also help reduce energy bills. I urge residents to check they are eligible and apply.”

Grants will be given to successful applicants on a first come, first served basis, with any work being completed by March 2025.
