Vacant care home to be demolished
- Published
An empty care home which has had 60 vandalism attacks since it closed its doors will be demolished.
Evelyn Wright House in Daventry, Northamptonshire, was shut down by the now-defunct Northamptonshire County Council in 2017 due to expensive repairs to bring it back up to standard.
West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) said antisocial behaviour in recent years has left the building with no heating or power and taking on water damage.
According to the Local Democracy Reporter Service, work to knock down the building could start in October, subject to a robust demolition plan.
The 35-bed home was built in the 1960s and cared for elderly people with a physical disability or dementia.
The building has remained empty since its closure seven years ago.
The WNC's demolition application, external said the site poses a “health and safety risk.”
Once the home has been demolished, the site will be left in a safe condition and barriers will be put up until any future development starts.
