Plans to turn a former amusement arcade into apartments and shops have been submitted.

Sunderland City Council will consider the scheme proposed for the former Mason Amusements building in Holmeside.

The 1920s building began life as a printing works, however the site now sits vacant and is described in council documents as being in a "state of disrepair".

Sunderland property developer Darryl Cullerton wants to turn the building’s two upper floors into eight apartments and create two commercial units on the ground floor.

The plans include new rendering over the existing brickwork, reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

In a statement submitted to the planning department, the developer said the building was about 100 years old but did not have a listed status.

A period of consultation has begun.
