Police dismiss claims man was stabbed during attack

A police service has shut down claims circulating on social media that a man was stabbed in Ipswich, saying he may have been struck with a bat.

Suffolk Police officers were called to the James Town Boulevard area of the town at about 21:27 BST on Tuesday after reports of an attack.

According to the force, a man in his 20s suffered facial injuries after being struck in the head near to the junction with Hawe Street and Wherstead Road.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police, external said: "It was not a stabbing but the victim may have been hit with a bat or an object. No arrests have been made so far."

The East of England Ambulance Service, external sent two ambulances and an ambulance officer vehicle to the scene.

A spokesman added: "A man was transported to Ipswich Hospital for further treatment."
