Trial set after officer shot with police firearm

A trial date has been set for three people in relation to an incident in which an officer was shot in the leg with a police firearm.
Justin Francis, 39, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a police officer with intent to resist or prevent arrest, possession of a bladed article and conspiracy to commit robbery after an incident in Silverstone Walk, Gloucester, on 17 September.
Two others, Wayne Vaughan, 37, and Tiffany Davies, 35, are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
All three appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Friday and are due to appear at a plea and pre-trial hearing at Gloucester Crown Court on 6 October. They were remanded in custody.
Gloucestershire Police said armed officers were called after reports a taxi driver had been robbed by a man with a machete on Wednesday last week.
They have not released details of how the officer was shot or who may have done it.
The officer remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Gloucestershire Police said the incident was an "extremely rare event" which has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
