A woman has been left with serious injuries after she was attacked following a road crash in Leicester.

The vehicle overturned on Tuesday in Aylestone Road just after 17:30 BST, police said.

The male occupant left the vehicle and ran towards the Leicester Royal Infirmary, where he assaulted the woman who was walking by at the time.

The victim was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham with injuries believed to be life-threatening, officers said.

The suspect was detained nearby, but no further details about him have yet been released.

Police have appealed for information, particularly anyone with dashcam footage relevant to the crash.
