'Large haystack fire' tackled near A-road

Firefighters have spent the night tackling a large haystack blaze close to an A-road.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to a field near the Gravenhurst junction of the A507 at about 01:00 BST.

It said crews would remain at the scene for several hours to ensure it was contained.

A picture on the Shefford Community Fire Station Facebook page, external showed thick smoke rising from a haystack engulfed in flames.

The post said: "We are currently in attendance at a large haystack fire near the Gravenhurst junction on the A507.

"Crews will be with the fire throughout the night to ensure it doesn’t spread to the surrounding areas."
