Man critical and eight arrested after disorder

A man is in a critical condition after being injured in a street fight in Dewsbury.

Police said officers were called at 23:11 GMT on Thursday to reports of a number of men fighting with weapons, including sticks and bars, in the Clarkson Street area.

It was established the incident had taken place on Northstead and three men were found injured. Two were treated for minor injuries, the third man, 21, was taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

Officers arrested eight men on suspicion of violent disorder in connection with the incident and they remain in custody.

Det Insp Divek Ubhi described the incident as "serious disorder".

"The fighting has left a 21-year-old man with very serious injuries and we are working to establish the full circumstances of what took place and bring everyone involved to justice," the officer said.

He said the force was appealing for anyone with information, particularly any footage of the fighting, to contact officers.
