A man who was reported missing on a long-distance hiking route in the Highlands eight days ago has been traced.

Ian Currie, from Edinburgh, was last seen on Tuesday 16 September when he left the Glenfinnan area to walk the Cape Wrath trail.

The 76-year-old was due to arrive at the Inverie Bunkhouse on Thursday evening but failed to arrive and officers were concerned he had strayed from his planned path.

Police confirmed on Wednesday he had been traced and thanked those who had shared their appeal.

Specialist officers including mountain rescue, search and rescue dogs and Lochaber and Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue teams participated in the search alongside HM Coastguard.
