A person is in hospital following an industrial accident in Doncaster, the ambulance service said.

Emergency services were called just before 10:00 BST to the scene near Doncaster Fire Station on Leicester Avenue, off the main A18 Leger Way which runs past Doncaster Racecourse.

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said a member of the public had contacted them following an accident involving plant machinery nearby and crews "immediately assisted".

It is understood Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors are due to attend the site later.

An HSE spokesperson said: "We are aware of this incident and will be making inquiries alongside South Yorkshire Police."

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it dispatched a number of resources, including an ambulance and the air ambulance.

The person was taken to hospital by road ambulance, a spokesperson said.

The road was closed off and South Yorkshire Police asked people to avoid the area.
