A re-homed dog has been given a new lease of life after joining Nottinghamshire Police.

PD Chaos is a one-year-old Belgian Malinois-cross and completed his enhanced training earlier this month after being offered to the force by his previous owner.

The new four-legged crime fighter spent 13 weeks training with handler PC Mark Hayward, after being assessed by police trainers.

PD Chaos was named by his previous owner, and is now licensed to serve the public after being trained in disciplines such as searching for people and detaining suspects.

On 9 September, he and his handler completed a series of tests overseen by an independent examiner.

Sgt Nicolas Dachtler said: "Working animals can be sourced in many ways, including from specialist breeders from around the country and even from Europe.

"Sadly there is no guarantee that any dog will stand up to the rigours of police training, so it makes a lot of sense for us to identify dogs like this in need of a new lease of life.

"Chaos had all the attributes we were looking for and – with the encouragement of an experienced handler – has performed well throughout his training.

"I am hopeful he will be a great addition to the wider team and look forward to watching his progress in the weeks and months ahead."
