Man who died after being found in alleyway named

A man who died after being found seriously injured in an alleyway has been named by police.

Sheldon Jameson, 42, was discovered between Apley Road and Whitburn Road in Doncaster at about 05:30 BST on Thursday, South Yorkshire Police said.

He was taken to hospital but died a short time later, the force said, with his family informed.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident, with anyone with information urged to contact police.

Det Ch Insp Thomas Woodward, from the force, said additional patrols would be carried out in the area.

"Our investigation into Sheldon's death is continuing at pace and we have officers working hard to piece together the circumstances of this incident and find those responsible for his death," he said.

"I would like to extend my condolences to Sheldon's family, friends and loved ones at this awful time, and I want to assure them that we are working diligently to secure justice on behalf of those who knew and loved him."
