A man arrested after a crash that killed two people in Leicestershire has been released under investigation.

Officers were called to the A47 Normandy Way in Hinckley at about 22:20 BST on Friday after the crash involving a red Ford Fiesta and a light grey Audi S4.

Leicestershire Police said the driver of the Fiesta, a 23-year-old woman, and a passenger in the Audi, a 31-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Audi, a 29-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition.

A police spokesperson previously said: "The Audi involved in the collision is believed to have been in convoy with another Audi, a black S3, in the minutes leading up the collision.

"The Audi S3 was not involved in the collision and no-one in this car was injured."

The driver of the S3, a 25-year-old man from Leicester, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has now been released under investigation.

The A47 was closed in both directions but reopened at 08:30 on Saturday.
